Description

Arp 104, also known as Keenan's System, is a pair of interacting galaxies (NGC 5216 and NGC 5218), about 150 million light-years away from Earth. They are connected by a bridge of stars that stretches up to 22,000 light-years long, formed from gravitational tidal effects during their interaction. This phenomenon can be seen in many pairs of interacting galaxies. As they are interacting galaxies, studying them can help us better understand galaxy evolution, especially the impact of interactions and mergers on galaxy morphology and activity. From this piece I've photographed, it can be seen that the background of this sky region is filled with numerous star-like, golden-yellow galaxies. These are all distant galaxies over a billion light-years away.
